1. Use the same audio. Test a dry drum loop, one vocal phrase, and one sustained chord. Each source exposes a different strength.
2. Start with effects off. Judge the repeat timing before reverb, distortion, or filtering makes one plugin sound louder or more exciting.
3. Match the slice length. Use a straight eighth note first. Then try a sixteenth and a dotted eighth.
