Pitch correction is the one vocal tool almost every modern record passes through. Sometimes you want tuning nobody hears. Sometimes you want the hard, stepped sound that runs through pop, trap, and R&B. Either way, the plugin you pick changes how fast you work and how the vocal ends up sounding.
The catch is that pitch correction plugins do not all work the same way. Some tune in real time while you record. Some make you edit every note by hand after the take. A few do both at a premium price, and your DAW probably already includes a free editor you have never opened.
This guide compares the best pitch correction plugins and software for vocals in 2026, explains real time versus graphical tuning, walks through a tuning workflow step by step, and answers the questions producers ask most. Rys Up Audio makes two of the plugins on this list, RysUpTune and RysUpPitch. They are labeled as ours, and every product fact below comes from the current product pages.
Quick Picks: The Best Pitch Correction Plugin for Each Job
- Industry standard real time tuning and hard tune: Antares Auto-Tune Pro 11
- Deepest note by note and polyphonic editing: Celemony Melodyne 5
- Affordable real time tuning in every DAW: RysUpTune ($49.99, ours) or Waves Tune Real-Time
- Affordable note by note vocal editing: RysUpPitch ($49.99, ours) or Synchro Arts RePitch
- Free: your DAW's own editor, MeldaProduction MAutoPitch, or the free edition of Auburn Sounds Graillon
- Creative pitch and formant effects: RysUpShift (ours) or Soundtoys Little AlterBoy
Real Time vs Graphical Pitch Correction: What's the Difference?
Before comparing plugins, it helps to know the two basic approaches. They decide when the tool goes to work in your session and how much control you get.
Real time (automatic) pitch correction
A real time tuner sits on the vocal track as an insert. You set the key and scale, and it pulls each note toward the nearest allowed pitch while the audio plays or while you record. It is quick to set up, it can run on the monitor path so the singer hears the tuned vocal, and it works for both transparent tuning and the hard tune effect. The tradeoff is that it treats every note by the same rule, so a bent blue note and an accidentally flat note look the same to it.
Graphical (offline) pitch correction
A graphical editor analyzes the recorded take and shows each note as a block on a pitch grid. You drag notes, flatten drift, reshape vibrato, and adjust timing one note at a time. It is slower, but it is the only way to fix the one wrong note and leave everything else alone. Melodyne is the best known example.
If you want that workflow without the Melodyne price, RysUpPitch is our note level vocal pitch editor. It puts every note on a piano roll, reads the vocal through ARA2 or captures it in any other DAW, and costs $49.99 to own outright.
Using both
Most finished lead vocals get both passes: a gentle real time pass for the bulk of the take, then a graphical pass on the handful of notes it got wrong. That is why plenty of producers keep one tuner of each type.
The Hard Tune Effect vs Natural Correction
A common myth is that pitch correction always sounds robotic. That hard, stepped snap on T-Pain records, Travis Scott hooks, and modern trap vocals is a creative choice, not the default.
Every real time tuner has a speed control, called retune speed, transition, or something similar. Set it fast and each note snaps to the grid. Set it slower and the glides between notes come through, so the correction becomes transparent. A singer with small pitch issues can be tuned so gently that nobody notices.
So your settings decide whether the vocal sounds natural or processed, not the brand. Every serious tuner on this list can do both when it is dialed in well.
The Best Pitch Correction Plugins in 2026
Competitor prices change often with sales and subscription offers, so check the vendor's checkout for the current price. Rys Up prices below are taken from our live product pages on October 20, 2026.
1. Antares Auto-Tune Pro 11

Price: Check the current AutoTune catalog for outright and subscription offers
Type: Real time plus graphical
Formats: AU, VST3, AAX on Mac and Windows
Auto-Tune is the original and still the name most clients ask for. The Pro version combines the classic Auto mode for real time correction with a Graph mode for note editing, plus formant, humanize, and vibrato controls. Auto mode has very low latency, so it is common in tracking rooms and live rigs. Graph mode works, but it is not as deep as Melodyne for detailed editing.
The drawback is price. If you need that exact algorithm because clients expect it, it earns its keep. If you are a home producer, compare a lower cost real time tuner on your own vocal first.
Best for: Professional studios, live performers, and sessions where the client asks for Auto-Tune by name.
2. Celemony Melodyne 5

Price: Depends on the edition; see Melodyne editions
Type: Graphical (offline)
Formats: AU, VST3, AAX, ARA, and standalone on Mac and Windows
Melodyne is the reference for graphical pitch editing. You can change pitch, drift, vibrato, formants, timing, and level on every note. Its DNA technology goes further and edits single notes inside polyphonic audio, like one note in a piano chord.
The edition matters. Melodyne essential covers basic pitch and timing edits. Assistant adds the full vocal editing toolkit. Polyphonic DNA editing needs editor or studio, not assistant. Melodyne is not a live tool, because it needs recorded audio to analyze.
Best for: Mixing engineers, exposed acoustic vocals, and anyone who needs polyphonic editing. Read our Melodyne 5 review for the edition breakdown.
3. Waves Tune Real-Time
Price: Check the current Waves offer
Type: Real time
Formats: AU, VST3, AAX on Mac and Windows
Waves Tune Real-Time is one of the most popular budget tuners. It gives you low latency correction with speed, note transition, and scale controls, and it handles both subtle tuning and the hard tune effect. There is no graphical editing mode. Waves sells a separate graphical editor called Waves Tune, but the Real-Time version is where most people find the value, especially during Waves sales.
Best for: Budget real time tuning and live vocal chains.
4. Synchro Arts RePitch
Price: Check the current Synchro Arts offer for Elements and Standard
Type: Graphical (offline)
Formats: AU, VST3, AAX with ARA2 on Mac and Windows
RePitch is a graphical vocal editor from the makers of VocAlign. It focuses on transparent vocal tuning with drift, vibrato, level, and timing tools, and it opens directly on the track in ARA2 hosts. It is a lighter alternative to Melodyne when you only need vocal editing. Compare it with RysUpPitch in our RePitch alternative guide.
Best for: Vocal editors who want a focused graphical tool with ARA2.
5. RysUpTune: Real Time Pitch Correction for $49.99 (ours)

Price: $49.99 to own outright, or included in Rys Up Suite from $9.99 a month on annual billing
Type: Real time
Formats: AU (macOS Universal), VST3 and AAX on macOS and Windows 64 bit. Works in Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, FL Studio, Studio One, Cubase, REAPER, GarageBand, Bitwig Studio, and other major DAWs.
RysUpTune is our real time vocal tuner. It moves continuously from transparent correction to the hard tune effect using three controls: Transition (0 to 200 ms) sets how fast notes move, Sustain sets how much variation stays on held notes, and Strength sets how completely the tuner takes over.
- Scales: twelve roots and ten scale types (Chromatic, Major, Minor, Dorian, Mixolydian, Harmonic Minor, Major Pentatonic, Minor Pentatonic, Blues, and Custom), with every note toggleable on the keyboard.
- Three engines: Realtime for tracking (293 samples at 48 kHz, about 6.1 ms), Low Latency for everyday work, and HQ for the finished vocal.
- Shift engine: pitch shifting across ±24 semitones with independent or linked formant, plus Mix for parallel tones.
- Groups: link lead, doubles, harmonies, and ad libs in Groups A to D so one change follows across the stack.
- Key from RysUpKey: RysUpKey can send the detected root, scale, and tuning reference to every open RysUpTune instance.
- Ten factory starting points from Natural and Subtle Fix to Pop Polish, Hip-Hop, Hard Tune, and Live Vocal.
Licensing is a simple key with no iLok or dongle. You activate on one machine at a time, move the license when your setup changes, and get free updates, including major ones. The product page has a before and after player so you can hear it on a real vocal.
It will not replace Melodyne for surgical note editing, because that is a different workflow. For real time correction while tracking or mixing, it does the job at a price that makes sense for independent producers. For a head to head with the big names, see our Auto-Tune alternative comparison.
Best for: Independent producers and home studios that want real time tuning in every DAW without overpaying.
6. RysUpPitch: Note by Note Vocal Editing for $49.99 (ours)

Price: $49.99 to own outright, or included in Rys Up Suite
Type: Graphical (offline) note editor
Formats: AU, VST3 and AAX on macOS 11 or later, plus VST3 on Windows 10 or later
RysUpPitch is our graphical vocal editor. In a host that supports ARA2 it reads the track straight from the timeline. In any other host you press Capture, it records the track as it plays, and the same editor opens. Nothing gets bounced or re-recorded.
- Per note controls: pitch, fine pitch in cents, formant, level, drift in and out, vibrato, and note edges, plus split, join, mute, copy, and paste.
- Macros: pitch correction, drift correction, time quantize, and leveling across a selection, snapped to a key, scale, or chord grid.
- Vibrato states: Organic scales the singer's own vibrato from 0 to 200 percent. Magic swaps it for a clean sine based on what was sung.
- Transport locked playback with A/B against the original take and full undo.
RysUpTune and RysUpPitch are built to work together: Tune on the insert for the take, Pitch for the notes that need a hand. Compare it with Melodyne in our Melodyne alternative guide.
Best for: Producers who want graphical vocal editing without paying for a premium editor.
7. Free Pitch Correction: Stock DAW Editors and Free Plugins
Price: Free or included with your DAW
Type: Varies
Before spending money, check what you already own. Most DAWs include a capable pitch tool:
- Logic Pro, Flex Pitch: a graphical editor with pitch, drift, vibrato, formant, and gain per note. For many pop and singer songwriter vocals it handles the job.
- Cubase, VariAudio: one of the best stock editors, with note level pitch and timing editing.
- FL Studio, NewTone: FL's graphical pitch and time editor for dragging notes, cutting phrases, and adjusting vibrato.
- REAPER, ReaTune: an included tuner with automatic and manual modes.
- Ableton Live, Auto Shift: a real time pitch tracking and correction device added in Live 12.1. Check availability for your Live edition.
- GarageBand, Pitch Correction slider: one slider controls the amount. There is no graphical editing, but it cleans up casual takes.
For a free third party real time tuner, MeldaProduction MAutoPitch and the free edition of Auburn Sounds Graillon are the common picks. Free tuners are fine for demos and learning, but they offer fewer controls and no note editing. See our best free Auto-Tune plugins roundup, the free tuning guide for Logic Pro and FL Studio, or try the free online vocal tuner in your browser.
Best for: Beginners, tight budgets, and learning how tuning works before buying a dedicated plugin.
8. Soundtoys Little AlterBoy
Price: Check the current Soundtoys offer
Type: Real time creative pitch and formant
Formats: AU, VST, AAX on Mac and Windows
Little AlterBoy is a voice character tool rather than a corrector. It gives you pitch shifting, formant shifting, and a drive circuit for grit. You will not use it to fix a flat note, but it is great for octave drops, gender bending, and robotic textures. Many people searching for pitch correction actually want this kind of creative tool.
Best for: Sound design and creative vocal effects.
9. RysUpShift: Creative Pitch and Formant Shifting (ours)

Price: $49.99
Type: Real time creative pitch and formant shifting
Formats: AU, VST3, AAX on Mac and Windows
If you want creative pitch rather than correction, RysUpShift gives you independent control over pitch and formant. You can change the perceived size of a voice without the chipmunk effect, build doubles with a different character, and stack octave layers.
Best for: Vocal layering, octave effects, and formant manipulation.

How to Choose the Right Pitch Correction Plugin
Real time correction on a budget
Go with RysUpTune ($49.99) or Waves Tune Real-Time. Both give you automatic correction and the hard tune effect without the premium price.
Surgical graphical editing
Melodyne is the deepest option, especially for exposed acoustic, jazz, or singer songwriter vocals, and it is the one to buy if you need polyphonic editing. For vocal only editing at a lower price, look at RysUpPitch or RePitch.
Money is not the main factor
Auto-Tune Pro plus Melodyne editor gives you the reference real time sound and the deepest graphical editing. That pairing is common in large studios.
Creative pitch effects
RysUpShift and Little AlterBoy are sound design tools that happen to work with pitch. They are not correction plugins.
Just starting out
Use your DAW's built in tools first. Flex Pitch, VariAudio, NewTone, and ReaTune are genuinely useful, and they teach you what to listen for before you buy anything.
What to check before you buy
- Real time, graphical, or both: a real time only tuner cannot single out one note. If you work on exposed leads, you want a graph somewhere in your setup.
- Latency: if the tuner will be on the monitor path while the singer records, it needs a low latency mode.
- Format for your DAW: Pro Tools needs AAX, FL Studio and Ableton Live on Windows use VST3, and Logic Pro and GarageBand need AU.
- ARA2 support: for graphical editors, ARA2 saves you from recording the take into the plugin first.
- Licensing: check whether you need an iLok, a vendor account, or a subscription, and how many machines you can activate.
How to Use Pitch Correction on Vocals: Step by Step
This workflow works with any real time tuner plus any graphical editor. The examples use RysUpTune and RysUpPitch, but the same steps apply to Auto-Tune, Waves Tune, Melodyne, or your DAW's own tools. For a deeper walkthrough of the classic effect, see how to use Auto-Tune style tuning.
- Find the song's key. A tuner set to the wrong scale will pull good notes to wrong ones. Detect it with a key finder such as RysUpKey, or learn how to find the song key by ear.
- Insert the tuner early in the chain. Clean up noise first, tune second, then EQ, compress, de-ess, and add effects after the pitch is stable.
- Set the key and scale, then trim the notes. Choose the root and scale. If the melody only uses a few notes, switch off the ones it never hits so the tuner cannot jump to them.
- Pick the speed for the style. For natural tuning, use a slower retune or transition time and partial strength. For the hard tune sound, use the fastest setting and full strength. In RysUpTune, the Natural starting point uses 185 ms Transition, +55 Sustain, and 65% Strength.
- Use the low latency engine while tracking. If the singer monitors through the tuner, switch to a low latency mode, then move to a higher quality mode for the mix.
- Check held notes and vibrato. If long notes sound static or warble, slow the speed or lower the strength instead of adding more correction.
- Fix the leftovers in a graphical editor. Open the take in RysUpPitch, Melodyne, or your DAW's editor and correct only the few notes the real time pass got wrong.
- Treat stacks differently. Tune the lead with the lightest touch, then correct only the outliers in doubles and harmonies. Small pitch differences are part of what makes a stack sound wide. In RysUpTune, Groups A to D let one change follow across related tracks.
- A/B at matched level. Bypass the tuner at the same loudness and listen in the mix, not solo. If you can hear the tuning and did not mean to, back it off.
Common Pitch Correction Problems and How to Fix Them
- Warble on held notes: the detector keeps changing its mind, often on breathy, raspy, or reverby recordings. Slow the speed, lower the strength, or fix those notes graphically.
- Audible steps between notes: the retune speed is too fast for a natural vocal. Slow it down unless you want the hard tune effect.
- Flattened vibrato: correction strong enough to catch every note also irons out vibrato. Lower the strength, or in a graphical editor scale the vibrato back up.
- Metallic consonants and breaths: S, T, and breath sounds have no stable pitch. Use gentler settings, and leave sibilance to a de-esser.
- Good notes pulled to wrong notes: the key or scale is wrong, or the singer used a passing note outside the scale. Recheck the key and allow that note.
- The singer sounds smaller or larger: a big shift moved the formants. Use formant preservation or adjust formant separately.

Pitch Correction FAQ
What is the best pitch correction plugin?
It depends on the job. For real time tuning on a vocal insert, Antares Auto-Tune Pro is the industry reference and RysUpTune ($49.99) and Waves Tune Real-Time are the budget picks. For note by note editing, Melodyne 5 is the deepest option and RysUpPitch ($49.99) is the low cost editor with ARA2 and Capture. Many producers run one of each.
What is the best free pitch correction plugin?
Start with the editor already inside your DAW: Flex Pitch in Logic Pro, VariAudio in Cubase, NewTone in FL Studio, ReaTune in REAPER, or Auto Shift in Ableton Live 12.1 and later. If you want a free third party real time tuner, MeldaProduction MAutoPitch and the free edition of Auburn Sounds Graillon are the usual starting points.
What is the difference between real time and graphical pitch correction?
A real time tuner sits on the track and pulls every note toward your key and scale while the audio plays. A graphical editor analyzes the take first and shows each note so you can move, stretch, or split it by hand. Real time is faster. Graphical is the only way to fix one wrong note while leaving the expressive slide into it alone.
Should pitch correction go before or after compression?
Put the tuner early in the chain: clean up noise first, tune second, then EQ, compress, de-ess, and add air or effects once the pitch is stable. Pitch detection works best on a signal that still has its natural dynamics.
How do I make pitch correction sound natural?
Set the correct key and scale, slow the retune or transition time, and lower the correction strength so scoops, slides, and vibrato survive. Then fix the few notes that still sound off in a graphical editor instead of pushing the real time tuner harder.
Can I use pitch correction for live performance?
Yes, if the plugin has a low latency mode. Real time tuners like Auto-Tune, Waves Tune Real-Time, and RysUpTune can run live through your DAW. RysUpTune's Realtime engine reports 293 samples of delay at 48 kHz, about 6.1 milliseconds. Graphical editors like Melodyne and RysUpPitch need recorded audio, so they are not live tools.
What is the difference between pitch correction and pitch shifting?
Pitch correction detects the note being sung and moves it to the nearest allowed note in your scale. Pitch shifting moves the whole signal up or down by a set interval no matter what was sung, which makes it a creative effect. RysUpTune and RysUpPitch handle correction, while RysUpShift handles shifting and formant changes.
Does pitch correction work on instruments or chords?
Most pitch correction plugins are built for monophonic sources such as a lead vocal, a solo guitar line, or a horn. Chords and full mixes need a polyphonic editor such as Melodyne editor or studio with DNA. Standard real time tuners will not track chords properly.
What is ARA2 and do I need it?
ARA2 lets a pitch editor read audio straight from your DAW timeline, so you do not have to record the take into the plugin first. Hosts such as Logic Pro, Studio One, Cubase, REAPER, and Pro Tools support it in recent versions. RysUpPitch uses ARA2 where the host supports it and falls back to Capture in any other host.
Is Auto-Tune Pro worth the price in 2026?
For studios whose clients ask for that exact sound by name, often yes. For home producers, RysUpTune and Waves Tune Real-Time cover real time correction and hard tune effects for much less. Try each one on the same recording at the current price before you decide.
Tuning is one stage
Pitch correction is not the full vocal chain
Pitch correction gets the notes under control. The vocal still needs tone, dynamics, harshness control, and space before it sits inside the record. A complete Rys Up vocal preset keeps those editable decisions together for your DAW.
