What Outer Space does
Outer Space 2 is AudioThing's emulation of a classic 1970s tape echo. Like the original unit, it has a tape echo section with three playback heads and two spring reverb tanks. A mode selector chooses between 12 combinations of heads and reverb, including seven echo plus reverb modes and a reverb only mode.
The current version adds per head volume and pan, tape controls such as wow and flutter, drops, low cut and high cut, a spring reverb with dark or bright and short or long options, sync, oversampling, and a preset system with a randomizer.
It runs as VST2, VST3, AU, AAX and CLAP on Mac and Windows, with Linux builds too. Activation works online or offline, one license covers up to three computers, and there is no iLok.

A lofi vocal space in Atmosphere
A starting point for a darker, vintage leaning vocal. Adjust to taste.
- Pick a characterful delay type and set a tempo synced eighth note with moderate feedback.
- Pull the delay engine's high cut down hard so the repeats sit behind the vocal instead of beside it.
- Add a small room or plate type with a short decay and lower the air control on the tone.
- Add warmth to taste, then low cut both engines so the effect does not thicken the low mids.
- Use ducking so the repeats stay tucked under the lead line and bloom in the gaps.
