- Download and unzip your vocal preset pack from your Rys Up Audio account.
-
Move the .ptxp file to the correct folder:
-
MAC:
/Users/[username]/Documents/Pro Tools/Track Presets/Avid -
WINDOWS:
~/Documents/Pro Tools/Track Presets
-
MAC:
- Open Pro Tools and create a new Audio Track.
- Right-click the track and navigate to Recall Track Preset > Avid > [Your Preset].
- Add pitch correction: It's recommended to insert a pitch corrector like Auto-Tune or WavesTune as the first insert on the track. Set it to the key of the song. If you're not sure of the key, use this site.
- Enjoy the sweet sound of a well-mixed vocal!
Pro Tools Preset File Types
- .ptxp — Standard Pro Tools track preset file (most common).
-
.ptx — Older format. If you're on Windows and having issues, try changing the file extension from
.ptxpto.ptx.
Adjusting the Preset to Your Voice
- Gain staging: Pro Tools works best when your input level is around -18dBFS. Use the track's input trim or your audio interface gain to set this.
- EQ: Open the EQ plugin in the inserts and make subtle adjustments. Every voice is different — cut frequencies that sound muddy (200-400Hz) and boost where your voice shines (3-8kHz).
- Compressor: Adjust the threshold and ratio to match your vocal dynamics. Heavier compression for rap/hip-hop, lighter for singer-songwriter styles.
- De-Esser: Adjust the frequency and threshold to control sibilance without dulling the vocal.
- Reverb/Delay: These are usually on aux sends. Adjust the send levels on your vocal track to control the wet/dry balance.
Troubleshooting
- Track preset not appearing: Make sure the .ptxp file is in the correct folder. Restart Pro Tools after moving files.
-
File extension issue (Windows): If you're on Windows and the preset won't load, try renaming the file extension from
.ptxpto.ptxor vice versa. - Plugins missing: If the preset uses third-party plugins you don't have installed, Pro Tools will load what it can and skip the rest. Install missing plugins and reload the preset.
- AAX format required: Pro Tools only supports AAX plugins. If a preset uses VST or AU plugins, those won't load. Check that your plugins are in AAX format.
- Session sample rate: Make sure your session sample rate matches your audio interface (usually 44.1kHz or 48kHz).
