Frequently Asked Questions
How does AI stem splitting actually work?
The model is trained on thousands of songs where the individual stems are already known. The neural network learns the sonic fingerprint of each instrument family — voice formants, drum transients, bass fundamentals — and uses that to pull each one out of a finished mix.
What's the difference between 2-stem, Fast, and Higher Quality?
2-stem returns Vocals and Instrumental. Fast mode uses Spleeter for five WAV stems: Vocals, Drums, Bass, Piano, and Other. Higher Quality uses BS-RoFormer for six 320 kbps MP3 stems and adds Guitar, but takes much longer on shared free CPU.
What model do you use?
For vocals and instrumentals, the tool first uses BS-RoFormer and automatically falls back to HT-Demucs when shared GPU compute is unavailable. Multi-Stem mode lets you choose fast five-stem Spleeter or higher-quality six-stem BS-RoFormer.
How many stems do I get?
Fast mode gives five WAV stems: vocals, drums, bass, piano, and other. Higher Quality gives six 320 kbps MP3 stems and adds a dedicated guitar stem.
How long does a song take?
The two-stem GPU route is usually faster than the song. Fast multi-stem mode usually takes minutes. Higher-quality six-stem mode runs on free shared CPU and a three-minute song may take roughly 45–70 minutes; the live bar and status continue moving while it works.
Can I use the stems commercially?
The output files inherit the copyright of whatever you uploaded. If the source is someone else's song, the separated stems remain licensed material. Use your own recordings, public-domain audio, or material you have permission to use.
Is this tool really free?
Yes — every Rys Up Audio tool is 100% free, with no signup, watermark, or paid credits. File-size and shared-worker limits are stated inside tools that use uploads or public AI services.
Do you upload my audio to a server?
Most tools process audio entirely in your browser via the Web Audio API. AI-powered stem splitting and vocal removal upload audio to third-party public workers, so you should not submit private or sensitive recordings.
What audio formats are supported?
Every tool accepts MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, and OGG up to 50 MB per file. Most exports are 16-bit WAV; the high-quality vocal separator returns 320 kbps MP3.
Does this work on mobile?
Yes — every tool is responsive and works in iOS Safari and Android Chrome. Some tools (like the virtual piano) are optimized for multi-touch.
