How to Install Vocal Presets on Studio One
How to Install Vocal Presets on Studio One
Studio One by PreSonus is a fast, intuitive DAW that's becoming increasingly popular with producers and engineers. Installing vocal presets uses Studio One's FX Chains system — here's how to get set up.
Step-by-Step Installation
- If you are using Waves plugins, click here for the Waves-specific guide.
- Download and unzip your vocal preset pack from your Rys Up Audio account.
-
Move the preset file or folder to:
[User]/Documents/Studio One/Presets/PreSonus/FX Chains
If the "FX Chains" folder isn't there, just create it. - Open Studio One and create a new Audio Track.
- On the top-left menu bar, click View > Inspector to open the Inspector panel.
- Click the arrow next to "Inserts" to open the preset menu. Locate and click your preset to activate it.
Adding Pitch Correction
Studio One doesn't include a stock pitch correction plugin, so our presets don't come with one pre-loaded. We highly recommend adding a pitch corrector as the first insert on the track.
- Free option: Download MAutoPitch by Melda Productions — it's completely free and works great.
- Premium option: Auto-Tune, Waves Tune, or any VST pitch correction plugin.
Set the pitch correction to the key of the song. If you don't know the key or can't Google it, use this key finder tool.
Adjusting the Preset to Your Voice
- Gain staging: Record at a healthy level — aim for around -18dB to -12dB on the track meter.
- Fat Channel: Studio One's Fat Channel (in the mixer) can be used alongside the preset for additional processing. Try it for quick EQ and compression adjustments.
- EQ: Open the EQ in the preset chain and adjust to suit your voice. Cut low-end rumble below 80Hz, and make subtle boosts in the presence range (3-6kHz).
- Compression: Adjust the compressor threshold based on your vocal dynamics — louder singers may need a higher threshold.
- Effects: Adjust reverb and delay send levels to taste. Studio One's mix bus system makes this easy to manage.
Troubleshooting
-
Preset not showing up: Make sure the preset file is in the exact folder:
Documents/Studio One/Presets/PreSonus/FX Chains. Restart Studio One after moving files. - Inspector panel missing: Go to View > Inspector in the top menu bar to show it.
- Plugins not found: If third-party plugins in the chain aren't installed, Studio One will show them as missing. Install the plugins and reload the preset.
- Audio interface issues: Go to Studio One > Options > Audio Setup and verify your audio device is selected.
