Best Automatic EQ Plugins: Choose the Workflow Your Mix Needs

The best automatic EQ plugin is the one that solves the decision slowing you down. Some tools suggest a tone for one track. Others help one sound make room for another. A group assistant adds priorities so several tracks can be considered together.

Start there before comparing claims about intelligence. A tool can produce a sensible curve and still miss the intent of the arrangement. The important question is whether its decisions help this song.

Three different jobs

Tonal balancing asks whether a track is overly dark, bright, heavy, or thin for its role. Unmasking asks where another sound is covering it. Group processing asks which parts should take precedence when several sources compete.

You may need only one of those jobs. If one guitar needs a small low mid cut, manual EQ is a valid option. If every change sends you back around the arrangement, a linked workflow deserves a test.

RysUpMix

RysUpMix is designed around MIX, PROTECT and MIX ALL. Analyze a key track, choose its tone, protect the processing you want to preserve, and coordinate the unlocked linked group around it.

It uses local role-based spectral analysis. It does not move DAW faders, change other plugins, infer every routing relationship, or claim a trained generative model. The focused workflow is the reason to evaluate it.

Waves Curves AQ

Curves AQ offers multiple tonal targets after learning the incoming audio. MixSense uses a DAW sidechain for spectral ducking. Consider it when those tonal options and a sidechain workflow match the job.

Its checked sale price is below the standalone RysUpMix price. Do not turn the comparison into a false lowest-price claim.

iZotope Neutron 5

Neutron 5 is a wider mixing suite. It includes Mix Assistant and Unmask alongside other processing. Compare the full edition with the full edition; Elements is not the same product at a lower price.

Choose a suite when the extra tasks belong in your workflow. Choose a focused tool when you already have those tasks covered and want fewer decisions in this window.

sonible smart:EQ 4

smart:EQ 4 already provides tonal profiles and hierarchical unmasking across a group. It is a direct competitor for the group EQ job, and its established priority approach should be represented fairly.

Compare the way you set intent: foreground and background hierarchy, explicit protection, sidechain routing, or manual control. Then listen to what those decisions do to the music.

Test with your arrangement

Set rough levels and play a section where the main parts happen together. Match loudness while comparing. Check a sparse section too, because a treatment that helps the chorus can remove too much body from the verse.

Choose one routing level within a group. Linking a bus and its child tracks can count material twice. Frequency overlap is not automatically a flaw; EQ should serve the arrangement rather than force every sound into an empty slot.

Compare price and purpose

Plugin USD price checked October 30, 2026 Useful distinction
RysUpMix $49.99 standalone Explicit protection and priorities for linked EQ decisions
Waves Curves AQ $39.99 sale, $129 list Tonal target choices and sidechain spectral ducking
iZotope Neutron 5 $299 full license Broader mixing suite, including Unmask and Mix Assistant
sonible smart:EQ 4 $129 Tonal profiles and hierarchical group unmasking

These are dated official product page prices, before tax. Sales can change. A lower price does not establish the same algorithms, controls, or sound. Compare the job you need to finish and the result you hear.

Compare the automatic EQ workflows, then explore Curves AQ alternatives, Neutron alternatives, and smart:EQ alternatives. These guides distinguish tonal suggestions, sidechain ducking, and group priorities so the choice starts with your actual mixing problem.
