Frequently Asked Questions
How does AI stem splitting actually work?
The model is trained on thousands of songs where the individual stems are already known. The neural network learns the sonic fingerprint of each instrument family — voice formants, drum transients, bass fundamentals — and uses that to pull each one out of a finished mix.
What's the difference between 2-stem and 5-stem separation?
2-stem returns just Vocals and Instrumental — useful for karaoke tracks and acapella extraction. 5-stem splits the song into Vocals, Drums, Bass, Piano, and Other so you can isolate or remix any one element independently.
What model do you use?
The live tool uses HT-Demucs for vocals/instrumental separation and Spleeter 2025 for 5-stem exports. Both are neural source-separation models trained to identify vocal, drum, bass, piano, and other instrument content in a finished mix.
How many stems do I get?
Five: vocals, drums, bass, piano, and other instruments. All five are exported as 16-bit WAV files in a single ZIP.
How long does a song take?
A 3-minute song typically finishes in 30–60 seconds depending on cloud GPU availability. There is no upload queue or rate limit.
Can I use the stems commercially?
The output WAV files are yours to use however you want — but the extracted stems inherit the copyright of whatever you uploaded. If the source is someone else's song, the stems are still licensed material. Use your own recordings, public-domain audio, or material you have a license for.
Is this tool really free?
Yes — every Rys Up Audio tool is 100% free, with no signup, watermark, or upload limits. The free tools are how we introduce producers to our paid plugins and vocal presets.
Do you upload my audio to a server?
Most tools process audio entirely in your browser via the Web Audio API — your file never leaves your device. AI-powered tools (stem splitting, vocal removal) run on cloud GPUs and the input is deleted immediately after the job finishes.
What audio formats are supported?
Every tool accepts MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, and OGG up to 50 MB per file. Exports default to high-quality 16-bit WAV.
Does this work on mobile?
Yes — every tool is responsive and works in iOS Safari and Android Chrome. Some tools (like the virtual piano) are optimized for multi-touch.
